In the book "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, the important character is Lennie. He is important in the novel because the novel talks a lot about him. They talk about his experience from life to death. Also, the novel ends when he is dead and his dreams are discussed.
Lennie is a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders. He walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws. His arms did not swing at his sides, but hung loosely. However, he is a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. Therefore, he can't control his manner and he gets a lot of troubles. He always has impulse for doing things and he brings the trouble to his best friend George. Lennie's aunt Clara takes care of him until she was dead. Then he travels around with George because they grew up in the same town. They lose the first job because Lennie wants to touch one girl's red dress. But the girl yells out, so they must run out of the weed. Lennie always likes to feel and touch the things that he wants. And he likes to pet little small animals, like mice, rabbits and pups. But he would kill them without expecting. When they find a new job in the bunkhouse for picking barley, the boss's son Curley doesn't like Lennie because Lennie is a big guy. They meet an old man named Candy, he wants to join their plans and he will take out his money to pursue it. All three of them dream about having their own land and orchard. Lennie likes to pet his rabbit in the garden. Also, he meets a good skinner named Slim and he has a lot of pups. He gives Lennie one pup to pet and Lennie is very happy with it. The other workers thinks Lennie is a good labor and nice to him. Except Curley and his wife, they keep Lennie in another trouble. It happened when everybody goes to play horseshoes, Lennie kills the pup because it was so little and he was big. He is scared and thinks about the rabbits and George. But, Curley's wife saw it, she talks to him and they sit together. She says to Lennie this is not a big deal and shows her hair to Lennie. Then she lets Lennie touch it, Lennie touches it and doesn't let her hairs go. And then, the bad things come again, he kills her. Lennie is very afraid, he thinks about the place that George had told him before if he gets any troubles just hide there until George comes to get him. After he runs out, when the guys see the dead body of Curley's wife, they are very angry at Lennie, and want to shoot him. George finds Lennie, Lennie is very happy when he sees George came and they sit together. George lies to Lennie and tells him to think about their future. When Lennie dreams about their lands, George shoots him at the back of his head. Lannie is dead and the story ends here.
I wouldn't like to be the main character and also I would not really like Lennie for a friend. My reason is Lennie would bring a lot of troubles to his friend. I don't know how to talk to him and what he thinks about. I think George kills him because he bothers him too much, therefore, he wants to live by himself without Lennie. Even though I don't like Lennie for a friend, he is still a good person.
