Book Report #1-Plot

The novel that I have read is John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". It happened in Sole dad, by the Salinas River. There came two men, the first man were small and quick, dark of face, his name is George. Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man, shapeless of face, his name is Lennie. They were friends and travel around together. Lennie always gets troubles for George because he has the mind of a young child. Lennie's aunt Clara take care of him until she was dead. Then he was going with George because they grew up in a same town. His aunt Clara always gives him little mice to play, but he always kills them. At this time, they lose a job because Lennie wants to touch one girl's red dress. But the girl yells out, so they must run out of the weed. Lennie always like to feel and touch the things that he wants to because of this he gets a lot of troubles.

After this, they find a new job in the bunkhouse for picking barley. When the boss's son Curley's wife is pretty and has rolled clusters hair, like sausages. She always keeps her eyes on guys and the workers don't like her very much. George tells Lennie get away from them because he thinks they will keep Lennie in trouble. However, they meet some people in the bunkhouse. George and Lennie want to buy their own land in the future and Lennie hopes to pet rabbits in their garden. In addition, one old man named Candy also wants to join their plan and he will take out money on it. Therefore, three of them are going to work hard for make more money and figure out their land. Slim is a good skinner and he has a lot of pups. He gives Lennie one pup to pet and Lennie is very happy with it. But, one day when all guys went to play horseshoes, except Lennie and Curley's wife. Lennie just plays with his pups in hand, unexpectedly he kills it because it was so little and he was big. He is scared and thinks about the rabbits and George. Suddenly, Curley's wife comes and talks to him. She knows that Lennie kills the pup and she say to Lennie this is not a big deal. They sit together and start communication. Then Curley's wife shows her hair to Lennie and lets him touch it. Lennie just forgets what George told him before, and he touches it and doesn't let her hair go. Curley's wife wants to yells out, but Lennie put his hand on her mouth. And then, the bad things happen again, he kills her. Lennie is very afraid, and he thinks about the place that George had told him before if he gets any troubles just hide there until George comes get him. After he runs out, old Candy came and he sees this, they all think that Lennie killed her. They are both scared and surprised, George says to Candy to stay here and he go back to bunkhouse. Because he doesn't want himself put in this trouble. Soon, those guys came back and they all sees Curley's wife dead. Curley was very angry, he wants to find Lennie and shoot him. He wants everybody except Candy to have to stay with the dead girl. By this time, Carlson can't find his gun and he thinks that Lennie took his gun.

George finds Lennie and Lennie was very scared that he thinks George will leave him alone. Lennie is very happy when he sees George came and they sit together. Lennie wants George to talk again about their future and their land. George wants Lennie to take off his hat and look at the opposite side of the pool and imagine their land. George doesn't want Lennie to face him, and he quietly and slowly takes his gun and shoots him in the head. Then, Slim and those guys come, they see Lennie was dead. Carlson asks George, you killed him and he takes my gun? George said yes. Lennie was dead, also the story is ended, George just goes back with them. I think this plot is a dramatic irony. In fact, I know George takes the Carlson's gun, but they think Lennie took the gun. Also, I didn't think George would kill Lennie because they are good friends. When I read George kills Lennie, I was surprised. But George kills him, because he doesn't want other people to hurt him. However, I enjoy this plot because it makes me feel in suspense and excited.

I think the title of this book named "Of Mice and Men" conveys the book. The men mean George and Lennie. And the mice means Lennie kills something because he feels they are such as little mice. Also, they got many troubles cause of this, therefore, the title put their name with mice together.
